Synthesis of Novel Materials and Quantum Dots
The Nanoscience Laboratory synthesizes novel materials with size dependent optical, electronic, magnetic or catalytic properties. Of particular interest are factors leading to shape control of nanocrystals, the forces behind self-assembly and the surface functionalisation of nanocrystals. The images above show electron micrographs of particles synthesized here. High resolution FEGTEM and FEGSEM are available in-house.

Current materials under investigation include core-shell semiconductors, magnetic materials, gold nanostructures, upconverters and silica coated particles.
